Planning a Winter Wedding Tips and Tricks

Does the thought of walking down the aisle in a winter wonderland sound like your ideal wedding?  When you’re a winter bride there are many issues that you must anticipate that a summer bride would not have to worry about.  Here are some tips and tricks to make sure when you are planning a winter wedding it goes off without a hitch!

First of all when planning a winter wedding we need to address the special obstacles that winter brides must overcome.  Of course the biggest worry has to do with the weather.  Snowy days may mean unexpected delays in traffic and unexpected vendor cancellations.  To avoid these mishaps make sure the area that you are hosting your wedding has excellent winter road control.  Having your wedding in an urban location would be ideal since roads are typically cleared very quickly.  For more rural areas, consider having guests stay in hotels close by and see if you can find a venue that offers services such as catering to minimize the risk of vendor cancellation.

With a winter wedding there are certain amenities you should provide your guests such as a coat check.  Most venues will offer a coat check, however if they do not you may want to consider hiring someone to handle this.  Make sure that there is an entry area far away from your reception area where guests can wipe their feet.  This area may get muddy and unsightly so you will want to keep it out of sight from your reception area.

You will also want to arrange for all of your photos to be taken indoors.  Make sure that your venue offers plenty of photo opportunities and make sure the photographer is aware and plans lighting and equipment accordingly.  Hotel lobbies often have beautiful display areas that would make great photo ops as well as in front of windows to show the outdoor winter wonderland.  Or maybe consider having the photographer take a picture from the outside looking in to create a warm nostalgic feeling.

When planning a winter wedding you want to instill the spirit of the season even though you will be indoors.  You can achieve this by wearing a fur trimmed cape or dramatic coat over your wedding dress.  Also nothing says winter like an all white wedding with Christmas carols playing in the background.  To make your reception extra cozy, consider having a coffee or hot chocolate bar.
