Attendant Duties: Bridesmaids Part 3 - The Wedding Day

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

For the past two posts I have given you in depth guide to bridesmaid duties.  Now I will go over the most important part – the attendant duties on the day of the wedding.  From assisting with the dress to easing anxieties, you are to the go to person to make sure everything runs as smooth as possible.

Of course one of the major attendant duties is helping the bride slip into her dress.  Depending on the dress this may be a complicated task.  Remember that she has probably paid a lot of money for her hair and make-up, so your task is to make sure these stay intact.

You will also want to make sure that the bride is comfortable.  During the hours of primping she may need you to get food or water or maybe run last minute errands.  Also help the bride get a little privacy if she needs some alone time before the wedding.  Sometimes this part gets very overwhelming and the bride just needs some time to breathe.Help the other bridesmaids with the timing and where to go.  Some bridesmaids may show up late, or some may not be as involved so you will need to keep them in the loop.  (more…)

Asked to be a bridesmaid but don’t know what all that entails?  Generally the attendant duties of a bridesmaid are to help the bride with all of the shopping, planning and implementing of her wedding day.  Here is the second part of my in depth guide to being a bridesmaid.

If you are a savvy shopper you may want to go with the bride when she is registering.  Most men hate the idea of shopping, and most brides don’t want 30 Play Station 3 games on their registry list.  So if your bride wants a little help, this may be a fun task for you to do.

A big task for the bride to tackle is the seating arrangements, and she could use all the help she can get.  Offer to make a drawing of the tables and pencil the guest’s names in so they can be rearranged later.  Remember to bring the drawing to the wedding in case there are any mix ups. (more…)

Being asked to be a bridesmaid is an honor, however it is also a great responsibility.  Yes you get a pretty new dress and get to sit at the head table, but you need to work for it.  Here are some attendant duties specifically for the bridesmaids to handle:

Help the bride with the planning.  If she needs some extra opinions on the venue or her dress or the flowers, always be available to tag along.  Although wedding planning may be daunting to you, your job as the bridesmaid is to offer the ultimate in support and relieve any stress that the bride has.

It is always nice to volunteer any services that you may contribute to take some of the stress, and money woes, off of the bride.  If you have nice penmanship you can offer help address some of the invites.  If you are an excellent baker offer to make wedding cookies or a cake for the shower.  (more…)
