Attendant Duties: Bridesmaids Part 3 - The Wedding Day

For the past two posts I have given you in depth guide to bridesmaid duties.  Now I will go over the most important part – the attendant duties on the day of the wedding.  From assisting with the dress to easing anxieties, you are to the go to person to make sure everything runs as smooth as possible.

Of course one of the major attendant duties is helping the bride slip into her dress.  Depending on the dress this may be a complicated task.  Remember that she has probably paid a lot of money for her hair and make-up, so your task is to make sure these stay intact.

You will also want to make sure that the bride is comfortable.  During the hours of primping she may need you to get food or water or maybe run last minute errands.  Also help the bride get a little privacy if she needs some alone time before the wedding.  Sometimes this part gets very overwhelming and the bride just needs some time to breathe.Help the other bridesmaids with the timing and where to go.  Some bridesmaids may show up late, or some may not be as involved so you will need to keep them in the loop.

Once the bride is taken care of you should see if everything is going smoothly with the guests.  Attendant duties include helping guests to their seats and being social before the wedding.  Many of the guests will have lots of questions about the bride, so be gracious and tell them how beautiful she looks and how you hope to be starting shortly then show them to their seats.

After the ceremony many brides like a reception line where you and the rest of the attendants stand with the happy couple to greet the guests coming out of the chapel.  Make sure you help the bride by encouraging guests to move on to the reception so that the wedding party can start with the photos.

During the reception, make sure to dance and be social with the other guests.  Encourage the guests to move to the dance floor, encourage cute photo ops with the bride, and maybe even give a toast.  Encourage the girls to catch the bouquet and be the first in line for the money dance.  The bride counts on her bridesmaids to help keep the party going so that she can just enjoy herself!
