Attendant duties: Bridesmaids Part 1
Being asked to be a bridesmaid is an honor, however it is also a great responsibility. Yes you get a pretty new dress and get to sit at the head table, but you need to work for it. Here are some attendant duties specifically for the bridesmaids to handle:
Help the bride with the planning. If she needs some extra opinions on the venue or her dress or the flowers, always be available to tag along. Although wedding planning may be daunting to you, your job as the bridesmaid is to offer the ultimate in support and relieve any stress that the bride has.
It is always nice to volunteer any services that you may contribute to take some of the stress, and money woes, off of the bride. If you have nice penmanship you can offer help address some of the invites. If you are an excellent baker offer to make wedding cookies or a cake for the shower. There are a million little details that the bride will have to order and keep organized. Attendant duties include helping with these daunting tasks. Whether it’s choosing favors, decorations, or accessories your help will be needed in choosing, ordering, making sure they arrive on time, and keeping them organized for the big day.
If the bride asks you to be a part of choosing her dress, consider it an honor and true treat and be there to offer your true opinions. Remember no matter how simple a bride wants her wedding dress to be, as soon as she starts shopping the Cinderella fantasies usually come about. Make sure she gets her dream wedding dress, but also be the voice of reason. Look at the practicality of the dress like if it is too heavy or if there is beading that would cause unsightly chaffing. However, don’t argue with the bride too much. Just be supportive in her decision and offer advice when needed.
Make sure you practice good etiquette when picking out your bridesmaids dress. Remember it is her day and not yours, so don’t complain if the dress is not exactly to your taste. Make sure you order the dress and pick it up in a reasonable amount of time just in case you need some additional fittings.
